Turning AWD to RWD??
Well I was sitting in the garage looking at my transmission and a silly idea popped into my head. Is it possible to turn the quattro into a rwd just by removing the cv shafts? Would the transmission stay balanced or would I have problems with the diff? It sounds too simple, so i'm sure there is a good reason why it can't be done. right?

RE: Turning AWD to RWD??
prolly cause no one wants to do it... number one reason to own a Audi is for the Quattro system. No AWD system compares

RE: Turning AWD to RWD??
Why would you want to make a Audi w/quattro into a RWD. Thats just ludacris. don't we all buy audis for the quattro?

RE: Turning AWD to RWD??
In theory, I guess you can pop the CV joints and turn it into a RWD. But it will probably throw some codes related to ABS, ESP and etc.
I dare you to try. OOOh, a double dare!! :) |
RE: Turning AWD to RWD??
i have run mine as RWD from time to time... seems to drive fine and drift pretty good i think! but i only do it for local events not to drive around with all the time

RE: Turning AWD to RWD??
Did you just do as Cbass was saying, and remove the front axles? How did you cap off the openings in the diff? Did you need to do anything else?

RE: Turning AWD to RWD??
that pretty impossible..... if you remove the cv-shaft not only will u have open holes in the trans but the center diff is a pretty open diff. u would never get all the power to the rear unless u took the center diff out and some how made it a solid "closed" diff
