Default Up a creek without a mechanic

Well, my local performance shop is closed down. This place was great, outstanding mechanic, nice facility, great equipment and good pricing. They only worked on Audi, BMW, Lambo's, Ferrari's Porsche, Saab, etc. But alas, no more. Ticks me off, now the only place I know of around here is the dealer 45 minutes away.

If it makes you feel any better...the audi dealer here is into rapping people for rediculous parts prices. I'm not so sure I'd have them work on my car either...they'd prolly screw it up on purpose to get more money. bleh! My roomy got a Jetta from them and he's had the check engine light come on a bunch of times but when he takes it in the computer reads a code that means "no error". Why would a "no error" code make the check engine light come on? ...bleh again!

What is it with dealers do they all suck? I tried two different ones and not happy with either. I bought my car certified used from one and they said I would get a loaner if I bring it in for service. I had it in 3 times and never got a loaner they said they didnt have any available. I even gave 10 days notice on one of the trips. A few other things really pissed me off about them that I wont get into.
Just thought I would vent a little.

Vent away man, vent away. My personal thought on it is that dealers make virutally no money on the sale of an individual car. It's all volume and parts, parts and more parts. Captive audience for Audi owners, you can't just walk into Autozone and pick up a shifter shaft seal for a 1.8t. Well for that matter, just watch the mechanics all run and hide if you ever drive your Audi into a Firestone or Goodyear shop for anything but tires.

One more that really erked me. Had the car in because headlights would not work they replaced the light switch under warrenty. When I got it there the first guy took all my info and I wanted them to do my fuel filter. He said it would be about $100. The service manager came by after helping someone else and finished up the paper work. He saw the fuel filter replacement on the paper work and said I didnt need the fuel filter replaced its a lifetime filter and never needs to be replaced that was how Audi designed it. If I wanted to have them replace it the cost would be around $600. I was just dumbfounded and let them do the warrenty work. That was the last time I will take my car to a dealer and do all the work required myself. If anyone can design a filter that would never need to be replaced or even cleaned they would make millions with that idea alone.
