is this what bad cam chain tensioner sounds like?
I have this horribly annoying vibration/rattling/clacking that has been coming from my car at around 2.2-2.4 k rpm only. No noise at idle. Sounds like from inside or behind passenger side dash. I can hear it loudest on the bumpy dirt road i live on when going about 12mph in 1st gear. It goes with engine speed, not car speed but is by far loudest when on a bumpy road.
I hope this is not what cam chain tensioner sounds like? it almost sounds like it's behind the glove box/footwell... in that area
If i push in the clutch, it stops as the rpms drop back down, but resumes if i rev it back into this rpm range even with clutch disengaged only if the car is still moving (especially on bumpy roads). I cannot produce the sound by revving it parked, or if i can it's so faint I can't notice it.
car is 99 1.8t quattro 5spd
thanks for looking!

No if the noise goes away when depressing the clutch its probably something going out on the clutch.
Most likely a throw out bearing, your gonna need a new clutch soon.
