Aftermarket CAT
Hi all, new to forum.
Does anyone have personal experience with replacing OEM cats with aftermarket?
I have 2001 A6 4.2 with 130K miles. P0420 (cat converter, bank2) keeps popping up. I reset the code, it's OK for 2 weeks and then it comes back again. I have not check the voltage (cold) on the rear O2 sensor, but I suspect that the CAT is going bad and I am looking for less expensive route that buying a cat from dealer. Is anyone running an aftermarket cats that have lasted? My tech will put in anything I select but he will not warranty the aftermarket (if it needs to replaced within months timeframe), and will charge me labor.
I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks

most brandname cats will work, if in calif. be sure its legal, some hiflo cats will set a check code and need a program or anti fouler setup, be search as there are many, APR, techtonics tuning etc, usually the cat is welded to downpipe so buying a separate cat can up labor costs to weld in over an easy bolt in with the pipe, stainless as your original prolly is will last MUCH longer, type 304 stainless is best. i replaced 3 rear oxygen sensors in my 01 jetta 199xxx miles, they are cheaper than the cat!!!
