Q7 3rd row seat removed
I took out the 3rd row seat in our Q7 to lighten it and save Gas as we don't currently use the 3rd row. Pretty easy to take out, But I am a bit concerned that without the 3rd row the vehicle might not survive a serious accident as well. It is basically a ~2" square steel tube bolted to both rear wheel wells. Taking that into consideration I would recommend this to others as a mod.
slid a flat pry bar under the front of the seat and then pushed down on the bar to pop out the two front attachment points. They are just the metal rod tabs stuck into plastic slots. Unlatched the 3rd row shoulder seatbelt lower attachment points (as they were attached to the seat base). Then removed the four bolts holding the square steel tube bolted to both rear wheel wells. Lifted out the seat. I put the two rear bolts back in after coating them with never seize because the holes go all the way through to the exterior of the car.
Also removed most of the trim in the rear just to lighten it up. Have had it out now since ~2012-08. Makes a little more room in the rear but there is no longer a flat area to lay things on.
