Depends on your bank account and future plans. The gtrs is quick and very streetable. A t3/4 will need fab work. A gt2871r is streetable but first level where you need to go internal. If you have an aeb just upgrade the head stuff. Unless you want to go 2.0

for the 2871r you're saying i just need more flow right? not necessarily stronger rods right? i'm kinda curious as to when they're gonna go, like, what their threshold is... i'd like to not cross that... same with my transmission, i heard 300ftlbs will roast the auto tranny... and as for the 2.0, yeah... i'd love to go 2.0 someday, but i'm not sure how exactly to go about that... plus i figure when i have the money to do it, and have it all apart, then i might as well swap the rods for some forged ones.

Well a 2871 will give yOu 400chp which is the limit on stock rods but you have a '99 so you have forged rods(iirc). For 2.0 most just buy a 2.0 rod As for the autotragic just drive it till you blow it the do a manual swap

I'm either going to go twin scroll or dodge diesel turbo. We will see

2.0 rods or 2.0 crank? or both? lol! i was just thinking that i want to get some more flow out of the engine... i'm so used to my old car, 2.3 with a little garrett t25 size turbo with instant spool. lol! that was nice. i just decided last night to devote myself to this car, i lost to a 2.0 GLI yesterday from a dig and a 15 roll... smoked em on start at a dig though. lol!

yeah, i knew that. just confused cause you just said "rod", not rods like multiple. lol! just double checking/assuring my conscious. so, if i just get rods from the 2.0, THAT's all i need to get it to a 2.0? or do i need the crank as well?

You need a 2.0 crank to go 2.0. You have forged rods so you don't need rods to go 2.0. But not sure how much hp the aeb rods can handle. When I go 2.0 it will be 2.0 fsi crank and all the other internals plus aeb head and associated hardware

yeah, that's what i was thinkin. a friend of a friend has some 2.0 fsi motors layin around and was thinkin i could barter with him on a crank.

i wasn't aware that the aeb rods were forged, i thought they were all cast. i guess i got lucky huh? lol!

as far as the head for your car goes, there's a guy on craigslist here in stl selling a complete aeb motor, turbo, head, all of it. for the auto tranny, but i don't think the head will matter if it's a manual or auto regardless. thought i'd let you know. it's a pretty good deal, guy wants like a grand or somethin for it.
