a4 owner from california
hello there
my name is alasdair and i am an a4-driving inhabitant of south lake tahoe, ca. i work in the ski school at heavenly mountain in the winter and at edgewood golf course in the summer.
i joined because i have a problem with my car and i need help sourcing a part.
my car is a 1999 a4 quattro 1.8t. i love it
the catalytic convertor has cracked and, having been welded once and failed again, needs to be replaced. the mechanic who will do the work quoted $800 for the part which seems excessive.
can anybody point me to a source of an aftermarket, direct replacement part which is california legal?
sincerely grateful for any pointers.
thanks and regards

Welcome to the forums!
To best have your question answered, you should post in the B5 A4 section.
Anyway, I suggest you get a used catalytic converter. There are a lot of them that are still in good condition. Check out Shokan as they are a pretty well known used Audi parts supplier.
