Default Another gas-guzzler on the roads..

And I don't care! Well, my wallet does, barely 20mpg so far, but what the hell...

It's my 'Welcome back from Iraq' present to myself. For the bio, I'm a tanker, from Ireland originally, moved to the US about five years ago in search of more money, better weather and bigger guns.

Nice shiny new 2005 S4 Cabrio has been delivered. Dolphin grey/silver interior, a proper transmission, not this fancy auto/semiauto nonsense, all the goodies except heated seats (in California?!) and SatNav (Why? I can buy a Garmin IQue for a quarter the price). Still working on heel/toe braking, doesn't seem to be as easy as other cars I've driven. Can't quite seem to get the revs right.

Now, I just need an opportunity to take it to a track day. Any ideas within driving distance of the SF Bay Area?

NTM

Welcome to the forum...and Welcome Back!!!! You couldn't have gotten a better present! You should post some pic's when you get a chance! Would really like to see that color combination! Heel/toe braking it's fairly easy as soon as you get the feel of it...it's all practice.

Welcome back for sure. Nice ride. Were you in the military or working as a contractor?

Closest track that I can think of off the top of my head is Infineon raceway, but I don't know their schedule at all...

Where in the Bay are you? I'm in San Mateo.

Very cool...congrats!

I found heel - toe a bit difficult at first, brake, accelerator pedals don't match up to well. It is getting easier, but it has taken some time.

good luck

I'm in Palo Alto, right next to you, almost.

Kelly, name the time and place!

I'm getting a little better at the heel/toe as well, but you're right, the pedals aren't that well positioned, it seems, and it doesn't help that you need to be bloody fast since the revs move around the dial so easily!

Looks sharp! The gas mileage will get a little better as the motor breaks in,
