Hi,
I love BMWs but an Audi was at a good price and I needed a car. I test drove it and bought it. It's a 2001 A8 L. I don't know much about Audi so I think it's a D2. No idea what that means. Also don't know what the L stands for. It's a 4.2 v8 in great condition with 139k on it. I do all my own work on my car so places to look for info would be great. I still have to do a tune up oil/filters/check coolant and all that. I was told the timing belt coolant pump has been changed but I have no record of it. The car really has no maintenance records other then car fax. The brakes look new and the suspension looks and feels great so I believe it has been well maintained. The other owner took it to the dealer for all work. So yeah send me links explain things to me please I will fill out my signature but am on an iPhone right now

Wilkommen to the forums (and the dark side)!

You are correct, your car is a D2 (A8 from 1997-2003), the D is the body style and the 2 is the version number (or close enough). The L means its the LOOOOONG version of the A8 (more rear passenger and cargo space)

be sure to check out the A8 section. we have a couple of members there that are well versed in the inner workings of the 4.2 If the previous owner took it to the dealer for maintenance you "should" be able to get the maintenance records from them. Unfortunately, some dealers are better than others when it comes to that kind of thing.

these cars aren't necessarily difficult to work or, it is just that even the simple things end up being not simple because of all the extra stuff you have to do to get to the thing that you need to put a wrench on. You'll see.

good luck
