Do I Want a Audi?
Hey all, noob here. Looking into getting a roughly 10 year old Audi to use as a daily driver. I am thinking quatro with a 5-speed manual, but i am totally new to Audi. I currently drive an 84 mercedes 300D as the daily driver and i am thinking it's time to get a little more current, not to mention that my wife hates the old merc.
What should i be looking at? I am fairly mechanical, but i have a bronco project, so i don't mind doing a little work to get it on the road, but i don't want something i have to wrench on every weekend. What models, years etc. should i be looking for?

There is a lot of good information to be found around here. Just keep in mind that a lot of people come here looking for help when they have "issues". Also keep in mind that Audis, and every other make of car is bound to have "issues" at some point. The older/more miles, the more can/will go wrong.
that being said, we also have a pretty good group of enthusiasts. Brand loyalty goes a long way with enthusiasts. A lot of us love our cars and are quick to overlook when they have quirks. It is just like with any older car (you mention 10 ish years), how well the previous owner(s) maintained the vehicles is going to go a long way. You mention wife. Any kids? do you need a family hauler? are you looking for something a bit smaller? larger? How big of an issue is performance (go fast)? fuel economy concerns?
anyway, do a lot of poking around in the various sections. we have a lot of threads about "what to look for". feel free to ask questions, if any arise. some sections of the forums are more active than others, so keep that in mind when looking for answers
good luck
have fun

Ya, i am familiar with the older card, my current daily driver is a remolded 84 mercedes 300D. This is just my daily driver, i have a van for the wife and kids. The ideal car if i could find one would be an S4, but based on the fact i am looking to spend no more then 3k, that is probably not going to happen. i have seen many early 90s A series at my price range. So size is not a real issue, probably looking a bit more sporty but still getting upper teens or into the 20 mpg range.
