Default Driver's Side Door Window Does Not Drop Down By 5mm On My Audi TT (Mark 1)

Hi All,

Help.... My driver's side window no longer drops down by 5mm when the door is opened. At first this problem was intermittent, however now it simply never drops when the door is open. My local rip off Audi dealer wants £100+vat in order to investigate the problem (do they not know there is a credit crunch!).

However I am pretty certain it must be the micro switch in the handle assembly. Have been told that the switch can not be sold separately, as it comes as part of the assembly and costs £80. I would very much appreciate any advice or direction.

Kind regards

Chris

GEESH Corby are we driving the same car?

I was told the exact same thing on Sunday.

It would have been nice to have a fore-warning to my window going out-just the day before, everything was fine.

MsA6 - so do you have the same problem where the window does not always drop down once you open the door handle?

I have always wondered exactly why it is required to drop down that 5mm, as it looks like it does not really effect the door seal. What re your thoughts?

Got a quote from an independent garage yestderay in Brum and they have quoted it will cost £200 (parts and labour). Thinking I may have to leave it until after xmas

This is not that big of a problem. It would only cost less than 15 buck and a little time. The micro switch in the door latch looses it's plunger, and will need replaced. You should be able to pick one up at Radio Shack or an electronics store. The new switches usually have 3 terminals and you only need 2.You will need to examine the old switch to verify NC or NO switch condition when latch is closed. Then remove old switch. You will have to drill out the holes alittle and install 2 small screws to hold switch to the latch then solder wires to the new switch.I have done this repair many times on MK4 VWs and it beats spending 200+ for a new latch.
