First time Audi owner checking in!!!
What's up everyone,i just bought my first Audi 2 days ago and already love it. I picked up a 1999 Audi A4 quattro 1.8t auto trans with 112k miles for $1,500. The car is beautiful but it does have a couple of issues. First one is that the tranny is slipping from 2nd to 3rd and a bit from 3rd to 4th. If i drive it on the tiptronic it feels as if it only slips on 2nd to 3rd and feels much better. The reverse barely grabs but dispite the tranny issue, the motor runs great and doesn't smoke at all. The second issue is that it has a slight dent on the rear driver side quater panel and the tail light is chipped a bit. That's it though, other than that the car is in VERY good conditions. The seats are all intact and paint still shines(although some scratches here and there). I am a long time Honda tuner and dabbled a little with mk3 supras but i am ready to take on a new project/direction and i feel as the A4 might be the one. I look forward to learning all about the A4 and exploring all its potential. Here are a few pics of the A4...

Wilkommen to the forums
car looks to be in pretty good shape. Unfortunately I fear for your transmission
be sure to to spend some time in the A4 B5 section of the forums. It is one of our more lively sections. Lots of good folks there.
good luck

Thx for the welcome. I was thinking of changing the tranny filter, changing the tranny fluid and adding some Lucas to it and see if that helps. it worked wonders for me on a 98 jeep cherokee i once had. What do you think...will it work for our cars?
and no. Refilling the ZF trans on these cars is an overcomplicated, underprecise process. You will need to get your hands on a VAG-COM so that you can monitor the fluid temperature as you fill. That's the easy part....
doesn't sound like you are a stranger to wrench turning.
I have been doing some research here on changing the tranny fluid and filter and i noticed that you need a special tool besides the vag-com for the fill plug. Since i am new to Audi in general,i am noticing i am going to need a whole new tool set for different bolts and what not in order to perform different task. Can you (or anyone) provide me with a general selection of tools i will need for working on an Audi? I have all the tools i need as far as general mechanic tools to perform task ranging from engine swaps to oil changes on jap imports(which is pretty much what i mostly do) but i don't have any hex or torque bits that i am now seeing i will need for my Audi. Any info on this would be great so that i have the right tool before i tackle any job on the Audi and avoid leaving it half way to get a tool. Thanks for the help and any future help given
A lot of the "special" tools that you need really aren't that special. In my limited experience I have found that a good metric set and some ingenuity will get you pretty far. Most of the Audi specific tools are either normal tools with just the right bend/twist/angle to get on the fastener or are some "creation" that works with what the engineers designed.
If I'm not mistaken, the plug takes a 17mm allen, obviously better if you get the allen socket as opposed to trying to get a good grip on one of the L-shaped wrenches but either will work.
PM me your email and I will try to send you what I have for the transmission DIY
