I am currently an owner of a 2000 maxima se (automatic) 150k miles. I baught it about a year ago now, and I'm so bored of it. My brother baught a 2000 audi 2.8 quatro (standard) with 110k miles on it and I like his car A LOT better than mine. The maxima was $3500, and the audi was $7000. Since then, I have gotten a job, and am now looking for a different car (probably after winter, live in NH) but I dont want to spend more than $4000 on it.

I was looking through these forums and it seems everyone is saying go with the 1.8t over the 2.8 v6, but when I checked the specs online, I have found that both would be faster than my maxima, but with a lot less horses (my maxima has 222hp, 2.8 is like 188hp and 1.8t is like 150hp). Please keep in mind I am car dumb, but I am looking forward to getting into it.

I am looking to upgrade whatever I end up getting, but my question is, how far back in year made should I be willing to go? A local car dealership is selling a 1997 audi 1.8t 120k miles, good condition for $3900. Is that a good deal and even though many people will probably be bias considering this is an audi site, but I am wondering, do I only like my bros car better bcuz its a standard? Answering myself I'd say know, just based off the exterior of the cars.

I realize this is getting very confusing, I just have so many questions. lol So i will make a question list below if anyone is interested in answering haha.

Questions:
`What is a user friendly website for buying or looking for Audi upgrades (such as "the chip" that everyone sais to get haha
`How far back in year should I go for? (keep in mind on a $4000 budget)
`How much would it cost to upgrade an audi 1.8t to make it faster than the 2.8?

If you post those same questions in the A4 section, you'll get about 100 different answers... 60% of which will be helpful.

 

Chip friendly site just depends on what chip you want!
You can find good deals but I recommend the "b5" which is 96-01 and stick with the 1.8t it is much more mod-able than the 2.8
A chip which can be bought for under $500 for the 1.8 will make it faster than the stock 2.8.
Also the year 2000 and 2001 1.8t has a 170hp vs. the 99.5-older which have 150hp but with a chip they are both the same. I recommend coming over the the A4 (b5) section and read the FAQs on that page. You will learn a lot and any questions for them ask there!!! If you can't find it let me know I will guide you over!
