Smile Hey guys!

Hey everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself to the scene. I am a college student in Upstate New York and have been an Audi fan for a couple years now. I have yet to purchase an Audi, but have tried to quite seriously for the past couple months. Right now, I am looking at two different B5 A4s, one from 1998 and the other from 2000. Comparable miles, and priced at $3000 and $3300, respectively. Problem with the 2000 one is that it has a cylinder misfire, which could either be an easy, or pain-in-the-***, fix. I would definitely be grateful for any advice anyone might have on things to look out for in cars of this age and area.

Also, looking to put some work into either of these cars over the summer. Right now I am thinking of a set of ST coil-overs and chipping the ECU. Any suggestions? My budget right now is something like $5000 including the price of the car, but I will be on co-op (like an internship but better, for those of you that don't know) at home this summer, so I could be convinced to spend a bit more money on something that might be worth it.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give,
Andy

Hello and Willkommen to the forums!

I know it sounds a bit unresponsive, but there is a lot of good information to be found in the A4 B5 section of the forums. Start with the stickies. Misfires can be pretty common, and pretty troublesome to track down. The good news is that once you have it figured out, it is a pretty easy fix. On a just one cylinder, I would guess a coilpack or the plug.

Rochester? A couple of the real active members on here are in the Binghamton/Ithaca area. You might be able to get one of them to check the cars you are looking at for you (search for a thread "Who's feelin meat this time", about a gathering they are trying to put together for next month).

Co-op? RIT (the South Henrietta Institute of Technology)? been there, done that

good luck. have fun
