Default Hey Guys New to Audi and need some advice

Hey guys I've never owned an audi before but hear a lot of rumors about the older Audis and VWs being electrical nightmares. I've got a modified Nissan Sentra that I've been trying to get rid of and a buddy of mine offered me this for my car.

I didn't search long so I apologize since I'm in a bit of a rush to make a decision but I was wondering what you guys thought of the car and if there were any known problems with that year or model. I read the one thread about what I should look at like the water pump and timing belt and I know those two were just changed as well as the brakes. Any opinion on this car would be great. Thanks guys. And I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I didn't think asking for an opinion on the car would be very technical.

Test drive it if you can. Accelerate and then coast check for Torque converter shudder. Or when it downshifts. mine has it and dealer said it is about $2000 to fix.

Hey thanks for the stickies. They were great advice. I test drove the car today and the car shifts very smooth. I honestly didn't feel it shift so I didn't know what gear I was in most of the time. As for torque shudder when I got off the gas I didn't really feel any shaking or anything. It was kind of slow when I gave it 100% throttle but it is an older and slower car. I just hope it's reliable. I'm not planning on modding this car much because I got too many headaches from my Nissan. Just want a nice reliable car.

Haha yeah like I said I'm done with the modding. At most I may throw on some nice summer rims (IL has terrible winters) and maybe an exhaust or intake but I really just want it to be the most reliable it can be. Did you look at the link at all? Do you think it's a decent buy? I mean it's a straight trade for me but is that pretty good mileage for a 97? All the electronics work great on it. From what I could tell all it needed is some new paint and new side mirrors because both of them are all weird and warped from the heated mirror function i guess?

I picked her up yesterday and did all the pain in the butt registration and title transfers to make her mine. She's not perfect but she's a good car. Here's some pics I snapped with my phone.
