Hi there,
I am looking at purchasing a used 2000 audi A4 1.8t (With AWD). This car has nearly 147,000 miles on it and the asking price is $4,500. I'm curious as to what kind of questions I should ask about this car. Is there a way to find out if the car had it's regular maintenance? And, also, is the car worth purchasing with that many miles on it?
And, what kind of maintence should I kind of expect on a 10 year old audi with that many miles on it??
Thanks for the help!

the b5 models really are an awesome piece of machinery. I am more familiar with the v6 version , however make sure the timing belt and waterpump have been replaced (they should have been before 100k or so) if not and the guy has no idea what you are talking about pull a 180 and walk away.
as far as that mileage for the price he is asking, that seems a little high, i am in the process of buying a 1998 30v with 80k miles on it for 4300, and i am under the impression that my deal is somewhat fair.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! if the check engine light is on i would get it hooked up to what we call a VAG-COM. Its pretty much a computer you plug into the car to diagnose certain problems. i have had my CEL go of for something as dumb as a gascap. Some CEL are no problems what so ever, other are.
10 year old turbocharger? mehhhh - this is why i like the 6cyl version better, a 10 year old turbo typically will not perform at 100% however, if you plan on modding the engine at all the 1.8T is def the way to go.
pretty the Timing Belt and waterpumps are the selling point with these b5s at 100k+ miles. I have seen these audis go to 200k on the odo or so (no rebuilds either)
let us know - hope this information helped
