Default Maintenance Schedule, only every 10K?

Ok guys, I was debating whether or not to post this in a different forum, but I figured this is a pretty noob question to ask so here goes.

I read the maintenance schedule and the only services it shows are every 10,000 miles. I have never owned a vehicle that said someting about oil changes with that large of a gap between services. Typically I have seen between 3,000 and 7,500 depending on driving conditions, but never 10,000. Is there something I'm missing in the manual?

Thanks,

Brendon.

Modern engines that run on synthetic oil can go 10k miles between changes. I myself let them change it every 10k and I change it in between at the 5k mark.

there are 2 settings on the newer cars " long life and standard" long life is set into the cars computer ( ECU ) and can only be reset with VAG or other, the next is standard and depends on which oil/filter you use and 6K is best or less depending on drivers lead foot if you get my drifffft

So if long life is the default, and it is intended by Audi to go 10K between changes, why would you want to change it to standard, just to use a different type of oil/oil filter?

Something else that sounds odd, why is standard not the default? Seems like an oxy-moron to have a setting called standard be an adjustment from what is default.

Thanks for the advice guys, this is my first import car, so I've never messed with anything with synthetic oil, or many of the other things that came on this car. I guess I'll just change it every 5K since the tires are supposed to be rotated that often. Plus, I'm a little bit of a lead foot with this car, but how can anyone not be?
