MK 1 TT 225 Coupe-Moro Blue with Ocean Blue leather..Anyone have one?
Greetings! This is my first post, yet I have owned my Audi since May 31 2005. I bought my 2003 TT Coupe 225 Quattro from the original owner who bought it with cash from Commonwealth Audi in SantaAna, CA from the showroom floor. It had a paltry 11,152 miles on it at purchase and I have since driven it toan indicated53,500 miles. What hooked me on this car was the color combination. It'sMoro Bluewith Ocean Blue leather interior. Itried to buy asilver ALMS TT quattro with the red interior, but was beaten to it by someone with good taste! Needless tosay, I love my TT and it has been a fantastic GT car for trips to Northern California and in daily driving service. I grew to appreciate Audi's craftsmanship andhigh level of designthrough years of reading Car& Driver and Road& Track and knowledge gained during my time in the TransportationDesign program at Art Center.
I passed the 50K mile warranty a month and a half ago and have had trouble with the following:
One of the radiator fans quitat approx 35K
The automatic window function on the driver side hasquit 4-5 times and is currentlyAWOL.
Recently, in the last week, I have noticed the turn signals working irregularly. They turn on, blink erratically for twenty seconds or so then stop. I'm taking it in next week to fix this.
A recall for the front sway bar was remedied at the 20K service
I replaced the original Michelin Pilot Sport tires at 28K with Yokohama AVS ES100 tires.Ireally like Yokohamas and theseare a nice, reasonably priced set. My two other cars (1972 BMW 2002 and 1987 Jaguar XJ6) both have Yokos and I love them. Well made, with predictable breakaway characteristics, good grip and always a reliable choice.
I replaced the frontYokohamas with the same AVS ES100 around 49K miles and the rears are currently worn almost slick; on the inside especially.
The two to three shift has been problematic. When I shiftinto third at anything above 3500K RPM, I often get an awful grinding'chunk' sound/feeling. I have found that if I double clutch it into third at high revs, this can be eliminated, but only if I am deliberate with the shifter. I've found that you can sort of "hook" theshifter into third at high revs by"snooking" it up toward third but slightly past and hooking it into gear. THis drives me crazy. I have never drag raced the car but I've certainly enjoyed it within reason. This can be really annoying on a road like CA74, CA198, or C17 near Salinas, if you know what I mean. My '72BMW can handle a shift in the same manner without any hiccup.
I really like this car and I intend to keep it indefinetely, regardless of how many miles I rack up. It is a masterpiece in automotive design and was crated as such, though no product is without its flaws. Thanks for reading. Here it is...
