Default Need some advice on buying a S4 Avant

Hey guys, My buddy is a car dealer and he just got a black 2005 6spd S4 Avant on a trade. I Drove the car and fell in love right away. Its a one owner car with 94,000 on it. I checked the carfax and it has no bad history and shows that it was always dealer serviced. The car seemed to run very strong with no problems, interior is also in great condition. Im thinking it has mostly highway miles on it. Giving this information would you guys think $17k is a fair price for the car? Also is there any particular things with this car I should have checked out before buying?? In situations like this I feel members of forums are the most knowledgeable and helpful people to speak with. All feedback will be very appreicated. Thank you- JRaymond

Personally, I would take it to a dealership or Audi specialist shop to have them do a buyers inspection. They will know what to look for. The dealership can pull what services have been completed through the Audi service departments nationwide.

I'd grab it for $17k personally knowing how rare they are up here in the Pacific NW.

The common items to inspect would be brakes (pads and rotors), CV boots, tierods, control arms and oil leaks from valve covers etc. common items for a car with nearly 100k.

How does the clutch feel? When you engage the clutch does the pedal come all way up before it grabs or is it a pretty early grab?

Best of luck!!!

Ok, thanks for the advice. Carfax said something about a valve cover being replaced. Im going to call the dealer where it was service tomorrow to see if they can tell me anything about its past servicing record. Im still second guessing the whole deal because I have seen few B6 S4's with over 100k so its still tough to say even if the car was serviced and taken care of it could run strong for another 100k or it could nickle and dime me for the rest of its life. I need to find some reports of people saying they have a B6 S4 with 150k and no problems. I love the car but I hate feeling like a guinea pig with $17K
