New to Audi
Hey guys, I am new to Audis. I do not own one yet, but was looking to get acquainted with the forums and people and ask some questions before I purchase. I am looking at getting a 2nd Gen S4 --the B5-- correct me if my terminology is wrong. Either way the S4 with the 2.7 biturbo. Some of my questions were:
Isthere was anything to look for specifically when buying one of these?
What is the maintenence cost like?
How durable is the engine (read how much boost on stock bottom end)?
What is a good price for say a 2001 with around 50k miles (I have seen some for around $20k)?
Where is a good place to buy from?
How difficult is regular maintenence like oil changes, tune ups, timing belts, brakes, etc..?
What are good ways to make good power without sacrificing drivability or reliability?
Basically, just where to start and any advice for someone looking to get into one of these cars?
A little info about me now. I am a 24 year old male that lives in Atlanta, GA. Just got out of college and have a real job now. I currently drive a 94 Toyota Camry V6 XLE (with about 295,000 milles on the odometer)to and from work every day. My other (play) car is a 99 Civic Si turbo. I have spent a lot of time and money on this car and continue to have problems. It does make good power (around 400hp to the wheels) but I can't keep it running or get it to hook up off the line. She runs high 12s at 118 on drag radials and is even nastier on the highway. I say all that to say this...I have outgrown the Civic and want to get into something nicer and more reliable, but I don't want to sacrifice too much speed. I like this car because it is factory turbocharged, unlike my Honda, which means I don't have to start from scratch when upgrading for some substantial power. I have read the S4 can make some serious power, but I just want some more information before I make a $20k decision.
Thanks for the help,

welcome to the forums -
the link joe posted is an excellent resource - as is the search function...
most s4 questions can be answered using those tools...
for me the best place to buy was private party... hopefully its an original owner,
completely stock / unmodified...
being that the B5S4 is getting up in age - theres a HUGE aftermarket / tuning community - so
there are lots of writeups / articles on DIY stuff.
If youve wrenched on ur civic then you should be able to crossover w/ ease
but i was lost the first time i opened the hood & saw the engine (w/ covers etc. on lol)
then i looked a little further & was like "where the hell are the sparkplug wires?"
