New to the Euro scene...
Hey everyone!
My name is Tina and I live in Blue Grass, IA. I just bought Layla, my gorgeous 2006 Brilliant Black B7 Audi A4 2.0T, last Wednesday. Yes I named her, I am very passionate about cars. My cars are like a kid to me. I am new to the Euro side of the car world and have always had a weak spot in my heart for them. I have been in the car scene for years now, I'm definitely not your typical female. :D I love to race and wrench and attend events. Back in February of this year I lost my gorgeous 2006 Wicked White Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX MR to a drunk driver. I was very thankful to walk away unharmed. I do plan to buying another Evo one day but in the meantime I am absolutely loving my Audi! Even after I buy another Evo, my Audi will go no where! She is definitely awesome! Audi's are a whole new world to learn. I am looking forward to expanding my car knowledge and I hope to meet a lot of awesome people down the road. |

I like the black on those cars. You'll have to lower it down a bit. Right now it looks a bit like Evo's do when stock, a bit higher in the front than the back. Since you are no stranger to turbo's, you'll find lot of goodies for these cars too.

I'm actually looking into different wheels currently. I am not a big fan of the stock ones. She's currently sitting on 16" and I'm thinking of going to 17". I toyed with going to 18" but I'm honestly not sure if I can fit them without issues. Granted that won't completely fix the height but in time I will deal with that. Definitely love having the turbo, that makes me really happy. I can only imagine what goodies I will find... but definitely going to take my time with all that. |
Willkommen to the forums!
Nice looking ride. You shouldn't have any trouble with 18"s. be sure to watch the offsets. coming from the EVO, you will probably notice the Audi is not quite "quick". Easy power can come from chip tuning but you will need some major mods to get "go fast". The appeal of the Audi is more about the luxury and comfort experience. lots of good information to be found in the model specific sections of the forums. have fun |

I am not that bias or snobby or stuck up. I work my butt off to have nice things and the things that I want. I have always wanted an Audi or a BMW and I am so thankful and happy that I can finally have one. Layla may not be super fast right off the line, but she definitely gets up and goes and I am seriously impressed with her. I know there are a lot of possibilities and options in mods and that makes me equally as excited and happy. I like knowing if I want to go bigger I can. Layla is definitely more luxurious then sporty and that doesn't bother me at all! I needed a bit of a change after losing my Evo and I enjoy my Audi for its comfort and luxury a lot. It's very nice and I really do love her :) Thank you for the heads up on that section. I definitely need to know/ learn more seeing how this is nothing like an Evo. lol. Oh and as far as running 18"s goes... Do you know if there is a huge difference in ride or mpg or handling with going that big? I assume there is, but I am just trying to be as knowledgeable as possible before making a discussion. |
Hi and welcome:) The car looks great and this forum is an excellent place to be. As Beau said, if you go to the B7 subforum you'll find a lot of info in the sticky posts at the top as far as modding for power. With your car, be aware of the cam follower issue and stay on top of the timing belt service (both are explained there). The B5 A4 subforum has the most traffic and many issues and questions related to your B7 are similar to those in the B5, and we'll be happy to help out there as well. As to the wheels, I've run all sizes from 16-19" on my car and even with it lowered, the ride quality is fine. You'll want to watch out for potholes but the in teased firmness of the ride is more than offset by the improvements in aesthetics and handling. I'd go with 18s if it were me.

I really do appreciate the heads up on the B7 and B5 subforums for all the information. Actually I really appreciate all the helpfulness in general. I know a recent recall came up right before I bought my Audi and the dealership had them fixed ontop of doing all the regular maintenance. They also threw it on the computer and double checked it with diagnostics before I agreed to buying it. I really hope I do not run into any issues anytime soon, but I will definitely read into it all so I can kind of have the heads up and know what to look for/ expect. As far as running 17"s or 18"s I am glad to heard running 18"s is really possible. I guess I am just sorta partial to the idea of the 17" for several different reasons... 1) Because I have a brand new set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires I had bought for my Evo, ran for 2 weeks and now they just sit because of the accident. 2) Because many of the roads here suck and are just not friendly to nice cars or nice wheels. I don't always want to be paranoid wondering if I will crack a wheel. BUT it is definitely great information either way and I really do appreciate it. Thank you! |

Welcome to the forums Tina!
Like Jeremy said, the B5 section is the most active and everyone will be able to assist you there as most things are similar. Your car is looking real nice. It's a great platform to start with. I honestly think 17's will be too small on a B6/B7 (same platform). Most guys with them run at least 18's and some go 19's and even 20's. Why don't you sell that set of tires and put the money towards a set of new ones if you decide to go bigger. Has the car been chipped yet? Also you should consider a Cupra lip for the B7. I love the way it looks on that particular body. Attachment 29251 |

I really do appreciate the heads up. As far as running 17"s over 18"s and selling what is currently in my garage.. I appreciate the point of view but that's not a route I'm willing to take. Those Hankook tires are mounted and balanced on stock Evo IX MR BBS wheels, which are not cheap. And since I do plan on having another Evo down the road, I do not intend on selling them. And as I have mentioned before running 18"s in my area is a horrible idea! There are some good roads but especially down where I work the roads are very crappy and I could easily screw up a wheel because running an 18" wheel would mean I need to run a low profile tire. Which I am not willing to run a low profile tire either because the ride sucks and you can easily screw up a wheel. Yes I am sure an 18" or 19" wheel looks sooo much more baller on the Audi's but its not an investment I want to take right now. Tires on an 18" wheel would easily be roughly $200+ and when I have $700 invested in tires just sitting right now, it seems more logical to use them then let them goto waste. Especially since those tires are on backorder straight from Hankook. I am not trying to be a snob or back talk with you or anyone else for that matter. I appreciate all the kindness and helpfulness. Just trying to lay out all the cards on the table so to speak. I have literally only owned Layla for a week now. I have not even thought about any major mods or chipping her or anything along those lines. Layla is a daily driver and reliability, good mpg, and handling is a must because I spend a good chuck of time in my car for work too. As far as that front lip goes, it does look very nice. Where did you get it from? Did you have to have it painted? |
