Default New to the German market

Just picked up a '96 A4 Quattro, 5-speed a couple months ago.

It's got a boat load of problems, but it's a step up from my 89 Acura .
- It's got a nasty "ping," although I've never put anything other than 93 octane in it, I'm pretty sure the previous owners weren't so nice.
- It's getting coolant in the oil, which is the biggest problem at the moment. I'm thinking BHG.
- Transmission likes to grind going into 3rd and 4th, syncho issue?
- Electrical issues, the climate control displays rarely work, the CD player only works 1/2 the time, and the speedometer and odometer quit the first day I got the thing.
- The previous owner opened the passenger air bag compartment in a futile attempt to fix the climate control display, so the air bag light is on, and that compartment looks terrible.
- Lower drivers side grille has been "punched out."

I'm here to hopefully find some easy fixes, and general tips, maybe some good online parts stores, etc.

As for me, I'm a 20-year-old college student, and aspiring graphic designer. In the meantime, I work at a Walmart Tire/Lube shop.
