yo! you'll find a lot of good info on this site...

A lot of what to look for is probably going to have to do with mileage and maintenance.

Timing Belt replacement is a substantial expense and you'll find guys saying anywhere from 75k to 115k miles, depending on model.

A couple other known issues are the coil packs, most have been in for recall at some point or another...not a huge concern, but maybe something to ask about.

Cam Follower, another known part to fail, again an easy job if you plan to DIY.

DIY in general should save you tons of money.

Suspension bushings, upper control arm in specific, seem to wear early as well.

If you check the sticky threads in the sub-forums, you may find some things I have overlooked.

Welcome and happy hunting.

both are very nice looking cars, and good prices, i would get maintenance records on both though

01 has the awm motor and 170bhp
98 has the aeb(i think) and 150bhp

both can be moded to whatever power you want, but the 98 if it is an aeb motor has forged internals blah blah blah... people love them and they are better for upgrading... if you are just looking for minimul upgrades the 01 is the way to go.... but deffinatly visit the b5 section and check the stickies.... but read fast those cars won't last

Honestly all i want is to lower it, rims, exhaust, intake, chip, FMIC, and a little bit bigger turbo later on. I dont want to go all out cause this is the car i want to keep around for awhile. What are some of the bigger turbos for the 01 model? i dont know much about them. im a Mitsu guy.

if you just want to do the most minumul upgrade, turbo wise.... get a gtrs/hff manifold, get the 415 or 440 tune, h/f cat or testpipe, open up the exhaust some, get a good clutch, and a decent fmic
get the unitune or ctapp tune and call it a day

for wheels and suspension, keep an eye on the classifieds section

don't do an intake though, either get a nice flowing filter or nice cone but you can find a good diy section on audidiy.com

make sure the timing belt is done... i would check the suspension on both too
