New Member Checking In
Hey there,
My name is Tristan and I just registered as a member of this forum. I am a 4th year kinesiology student at UBC in Vancouver, Canada, and I also work part time as a valet-bellman at the Wedgewood Hotel in Vancouver. Nearly two months ago my first car, a 2003 Sentra SE-R Spec V (flame away, just know that I stuck to performance bolt-ons and didn't rice it in any way) got totalled in a t-bone accident with a Bentley, and I have been on the hunt for a new car ever since.
In a dream world where money is no object, I would import the new 2012 A4 allroad quattro 3.0 TDI from Germany and love it to death. However, since I'm in Canada and money is an object, I have to consider my real options. Ideally, I'd like to pick up an 01-05 allroad quattro, but in my area they are right at the top of my price range, and I don't think I would have the money to maintain it properly afterwards.
Therefore, I have been looking at A4's, in the hopes of finding an 02+ Avant quattro with a manual transmission (in Canada we didn't get the Avant until the '02 redesign). Unfortunately, I'm finding that these are very hard to come by. In my searching I have found an '00 A4 quattro 1.8t with 51,000 kms (30,000 miles) and am currently negotiating a price. I will post a link to the thread about that car, which I'm about to write, as there are a few things I want to run by the experienced members on here regarding the condition of that car.
So, I hope to be the proud new owner of a B5 A4 in the coming weeks, and will be coming here for support with it! Look forward to interacting everyone, from the trolling I've done so far this looks like a very helpful forum.

Willkommen to the forums (eh?)
an accident with a Bentley? Who gets in an accident with a Bentley? Crazy Canucks!
be sure to spend a lot of time in the A4 section. read the stickies. we have a lot of active B5 guys on the boards. you are right to be concerned about maintenance costs but it can be managed if you are willing and able to DIY. you will find a lot of great support on the forums for maintenance projects
best of luck finding a car that suits

Avants are hard to find, and Avants w/ a manual are like finding a quadracorn. That being said you never mentioned n/a or turbo... If you want to mod get a manual turbo car or you are limited.
00 w/ 30k is nice but it will need the timing system redone due to age.
Gl w/ you hunt and enjoy your stay

Dude blew a stop sign in front of me, had no time to stop. All his fault, I'm getting compensated, it's all good
Really? I've never heard that before.... I thought timing was purely a mileage thing, I guess the belt gets dried up/brittle over time?
