Well, I went to Waterfest 13 this past weekend with my uncle and loved it (even though it was more about the VW's). I've had my 97 A4 FWD 1.8T 5-speed for 5 years now. Bought it used from an Audi enthusiast with 57K on it. Now it's at 104k and runs great. I added a pretty sick sound system, but that's it. I haven't done anything else. Little did I know that my new Uncle (through marriage) knows a ton about the 1.8T because he's got it in his 84 VW Rabbit (he did a 13.37 yesterday at Waterfest) I guess the reason why I haven't put money into my car is that I know how fast the mods can add up - but after going to the fest on Sunday, I'm ready to put what little money I have available (buying a house next year) into the car. I've been reading this site for hours now and all I can say is I plan on learning a lot from the overwhelming amount of good info here. I'll admit that even after reading the sticky's and such - I'm still not up to par - I apologize in advance. But here is my scenario:

I went to the fest to get my ECU chipped, but no one was doing soddering jobs for older A4's. Here is what my uncle suggests to do for the money I have available:

Spend $ 400 to get chipped
get a decent DV
get a N75
rig a new Air Filter

total cost of around 600

I was wondering if this was the right thing to do considering I have only 700 dollars to play with.

I have $700 to spend right now, any suggestions? This might be the only money I'll be able to put into the car for a while.

Apr will fix you up, and a DV will run you little bit as well. If you just get the 710N, its cheap but effective. Throw a Filter in there, and you should be golden. Just watch out with the filter as sometimes if they are too oily, they can mess up your MAF. If you get the K&N, use a cloth to dry it out a bit and you should be ok. That will be round 600 total and you will notice a ton of difference. I had a 98 FWD 5 speed 1.8 and when i chipped it, it was like night and day!

Welcome to the forums.
