Default New to the site!

Hello all, looking at getting into the Audi world. I will be looking at several A6's next week. Coming from a 350z I obviously know that many things will be different, some good some not but with all buying decisions I want as much info as possible so I will be doing tons of research. I look forward to learning as much as possible.

Wilkommen to the forums

be sure to spend some time reading the A6 section. what years of A6 will you be looking at? there are some key things to be on the lookout for. if you are buying from a private seller or off an non-Audi dealership, it is worth it to find an independent shop in you area that works on Audis and have an inspection done. $100 investment for a pre-purchase inspection can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

good luck

Thanks for the welcome, I have already been doing some research in the A6 section. I am looking at two different 04 A6s. One the S-Line 2.7t and the other the 2.7t quattro. The latter is at an Audi dealer, the first not and I will definitely have an Audi shop look at it.

What are some key things to look/listen for when test driving? Like I said I am coming from a 350z so I know what sounds are right and wrong in the Japanese import world, but this will be my first turbo vehicle as well as my first German made car. Any and all info would be great as I have found in the past forums are the place to go for insider knowledge. Thanks in advance!

I think you will find the A6 "experience" a bit different from the 350z. I guess if I had to compare them I would consider the nissan more like a "sprinter" while the A6 is more of a "distance runner". You most likely wont be impressed by the 0-60 but the 40-100 is where the audi will distinguish itself (IMHO). I think you will find the ride quality in the audi to be a bit more sedate.

as far as the test drive goes, all i can really say is trust your instincts. if something feels/seems/sounds wrong, it probably is.

make sure you spend some time under the hood. take a shorty flat head screwdriver with you and remove the engine covers (they either "snap down" or have 1/4 turn screws). take a good look on the top and down the sides of the engine. make sure none of the little hoses look too worn. look for oil/gunk buildup from leaks especially down the sides or back of the engine. the turbos on the 2.7T are down there in the back, really no good way to get eyes on them without an inspection mirror. you should be able to see a "bunch" of heat shields down there too.

give a good listen under the hood while it is running (mine is quite quiet). again, if it sounds "wrong" there is a good possiblity that there is an issue.

remove the oil fill cap and give a look. you should be able to see one of the cams and a lobe or two. look for excessive gum "buildup" in there. a pretty good indication that regular oil changes weren't done or synthetic wasn't used.

that is the stuff i can think of from the top of my head.

good luck
