I have been in quattros since '92, my family since '85. I have had 4 ('85 4ksq, '87 4kcsq, '90 90sq, and currently a '91 20v tq), and including those, my immediate family has had another 5, all quattros. Needless to say we have been there and done that.
The '91 has been chipped, wastegated, and lowered, but it is basically just a nice transporter now. My dad had it to the track a couple of times, but never really pushed it. Who wants to replace a turbo, if they don't have to. It is now up to 240k miles, and it still purrs along. I met a new S4 entering the expressway nearby early one morning, we were the only ones on the road, and I went with him (her?) until I looked at the speedo. I can't afforda ticket for 130. Never have gotten close to that again.
I have never let go of a quattro prior to 200k miles, and they have all been inline 5's. Love that engine.
