Default Possible solution to fixing hood cable that is broken with 2002 Audi quattro a4 1.8T

So my parents bought me my first car. A 2002 Audi quattro a4 1.8T

There was two things I had to work on. The left signal light and the cable for the hood. I noticed that there was no plastic piece I could pull to pop the hood open so I had to use vise grips. Recently today I needed to get under the hood and the cable snapped. I read everywhere on forums on how to open the hood and I found that one way is to go under the car some how. I looked under and I could barely see anything. My father came along and showed me a hack I suppose. He used a dremal to cut the coating on the cable inside and left the cable its self with plenty of room for me to grab it again. I plan on replacing it so I don't care about the current cable. I figured I would share this since it's kinda hard to find these thing. Also I'm new so I hope to be learning alot
