question about scheduled maintenace
Hi,
Im really eager to buy a 98-2001 a4 2.8. I want to spend under $10k so Im looking at cars with 100,000 miles on them. Im wondering if anyone knows or has the scheduled maintenance list, detailing what service should be done at what mileage (and their prices), so i can find out if all of it was done by the previous owner. also can anyone mention any particular issues with 98-2001 a4's. I hear alot about getting the timing belt and water pump done, but is there anything I should be concerned with since this car doesnt have a turbo to worry about. is there anything major. also I live in NY so im sure that affects the service prices. all info from people with 100 K mileage cars would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

just make sure the timing belt is done every 60k miles.. so if you pick up a car close to 120k make sure they do it before you buy it.. and just make sure that the oil was changed regularly etc... etc... last time it had a tune up..
If you're looking for cars with over 100k I second Redgoat by making sure the timing belt is done before you buy it. Also, make sure you'll be able to make some repairs if needed. You'll want to have some money stashed away just incase because things start to go after 100k. Audi's are great cars, so you shouldn't have too many problems.
welcome. and what redgoat said.huhuhuuhuh
also check the valve cover gaskets. tie rod ends, upper control arms, and sunroof and diff. leaks. if all is good buy it. if not is all good buy it anyways because all this stuff is easy to repair but most importantly get that timing belt done because if its not the engine will be toast if it blows/

thanks for all the great feedback from everyone. im wondering how much some of this stuff costs, (valve cover gaskets. tie rod ends, upper control arms, and sunroof and diff. leaks) i definitely wont be doing it myself so im curious as to how expensive it is, and are Audi's the type of cars that need to be serviced by Audi Dealers only.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Thanks for all the feedback.
No they don't really have to be serviced by the dealer. If you can find a good euro mechanic you should be fine. Expect Audi repairs to be more expensive than say a Honda or any domestic really.
