Soon to be an Audi owner
Hey everybody,
I been an unregistered user on this forum for couple of days and I now made up my mind to buy an Audi. Since I am on a budget I will be getting an A4q on stick. I also made up my mind to get the 2.8 since I don't want to get my self into modding nor spending extra bucks on maintence. It seems that the A4 is not that big of a trouble car except I just need to get some extra info that I could not find on the forum. The first thing is which year would be the best to get. I won't be able to afford a 2000 nor 2001 so most likely it will be a 97 or a 98 unless a good deal falls through. Second thing is what should I pay close attention to when inspecting a car? I know the basics since I had 13 cars already under my belt but I never had an Audi. Any suggestions will help, I hope that quattro is as good as fwd model reliability wise. Thanks in advance.

Get the quattro, look for timing belt changes, and any oil leaks. Other than that the 2.8 isa good motor. Should be real reliable for ya. If you are getting a stick, check the clutch feel and make sure its not worn. Also check front control arms, make sure whole front suspension is tight.
try and get around the 99-2000 models. from what i heard, little more reliable.
