Default timing belt audi TT 2001

Hey, I have an Audi TT 2001. It has 61,000 miles now and the timing belt just broke. My husband (mechanic) is doing the job, but needs some info on the position of the gears. Anybody out there that's experienced anything like this before??? Dealership wants more then $3,000.00 to fix. I paid enough for my car and I take really good care of it. That's why my husband John, is doing the job. He is totally capable but needs some info. I've had it for 3 years and do NOT want to let it go.(get rid of MY car) I am a little surprised about the belt breaking at this mileage, although I was due for a service at 60,000 miles which I could not make due to being layed off.($800.00) But whatever. It's a problem that has to be fixed, and I'm out here looking for some info!!!

Hey welcome to the forum. Did the valves bend? If so I can see where the $3000 bill would come from. He is probably going to be better off buying a used head from a junk yard.
