Default What to buy

Hi everyone,

I don't currently own an Audi, but will be getting myself one soon.
I've just joined this site and I have a question;
I want an A4 (hence my username), looking at 1996 - 1997 model,
can anyone give me some advice. EG; best model to go for, common
problems, other tips...
I'm leaning towards a 1.8T Quattro, definetly manual.

Cheers in advance.

Welcome to the forum petermcA4!

This is a great site. We keep the dialogue friendly and the attitude positive. The info is well received by all and we are here to help anyone with the need. I hope you find it to your liking as well.

If you're not familiar with this forum, please click the START HERE!link. There you will find a forum vocab list, an Audi forum terminology list and an Audi lexicon list. They should be very helpful to you if you're not familiar with the jargon.

Please feel free to ask any question, but double check the archives first. Many questions have been archived and, quite often, the answers are comprehensive.

Ditto the search. But for a quick assistance...

- check mileage vs. price
- good maintenence records kept
- depending on miles.. belt, fluids, etc. changed
- check all over for how well it was kept, inside, outside, underneath, under hood

Not sure if there is a better MY out there, but for additional used car buying tips, check out car buying tips for some good info to keep in mind.

Good luck.

'97 1.8t quattro A4 - do a search and you'll see why.

Make sure the DV is upgraded (or at least a new OE has been replaced)
Ditto for the coolant sensor (OE replacement is $5 and an easy 5 minute DIY)

If you're looking at authorized dealers for used, then I highly suggest you get an Audi Assured (certified pre-owned); they are well worth the extra peace of mind and the warranty is great.
