Even I knew that the Cobra was the only 'stang with an independent rear... I gave it some credit, for that trait. Still bothers me that they are using 5 speeds though... Ford is clearly living in the past!

Now you get to choose if you want the styling of the coupe, or the function of the sedan.

I hope you find a cool one. My cousin had one with the full Dinan treatment. It was fast, but I thought it sounded like a 2 stroke bike.

Did the other guy pick up the 968, so now you are M3 all the way?

Just look around a lot to find a good one. These cars tend to have a wider margin between the good ones and the thrashed ones, and parts aren't exactly cheap. My roommate found his 97 M3 sedan for around $12k in Illinois, but only after looking for one for months. his has been a good car for him. the only thing that's gone wrong was the key cylinder broke, and was $200 to fix, and he put in a clutch for $200. Other than that, it's been as reliable as a Honda.

If you find one that you like, I have a buddy at BMW here that can run the VIN in their system and tell me exactly how many times it's been in for service at any BMW dealer in the country, which dealer it went to for service, if there were any diagnostics that weren't followed up on, all sorts of things. You keep mentioning a "shop", so you might be able to handle that on your own, but if you'd like me to check it for you, let me know.

Im gonna have to disagree on you on this one..... Yes , the bullitt is a 2V but its also an IRS
The Bullitt has a solid axle. You can disagree with me, but MotorTrend.com, USAToday.com, Mustang50Magazine.com, TheAutoChannel.com, ConsumerGuide.com, CarAndDriver.com and a host of others agree with me.

Like the Mustang GT, the Bullitt has an independent front MacPherson strut suspension and a solid rear axle with coil springs and gas shocks.

Google "Bullitt IRS", or "Bullitt Solid Axle" if you still think I'm wrong.....

Not to sound like an ***, but if you know Mustangs that well, you should know that the Cobra is the only factory IRS equipped Mustang.
I have to back silverseven on this. I drove a bullitt stang when looking for mine and they drive close to what a GT does. Its a solid rear b/c if it wasnt i would have bought that one instead of a faster modded gt for 2 grand less. I wish there was a Limited slip mod for the GT.

Here's another one 2001 Mustang Bullitt, IRS, rare & fun to drive.... You can pickup a use one for that price range & probably worth alot of money 30 years from now...........
The Bullitt was solid axle actually. The cobra was the only IRS equipped Mustang.

The Bullitt is better through the cones than the Cobra or Mach1 due to the lower CG, but the latter two are faster in a straight line. The Bullitt is only a two valve.
Im gonna have to disagree on you on this one..... Yes , the bullitt is a 2V but its also an IRS, believe me i know my Mustangs.... i happen to own a few of em ( moded ones )...... its a family thing.........
Damn im drunk right now so excuse me if im no making any sence
My bad, sorry guys......... Like I said I was a little or too drunk that night.. I was on a 3 day binge.......
My brother use to own a bullitt & I had a moded 96 Cobra, 91 5.0L & dad had a 69 Boss.......

I couldve sworn it was an IRS but I was wrong. It did handle pretty good for a solid rear....

A properly set-up live axle can work really well. The unsprung weight is the biggest detriment to it, and that's usually only a big problem on bumpy roads or tracks such as Sebring. With the right spring rates and on a smooth track, a live axle is just as good as IRS. It won't have quite the versatility, but come on, it's an American car. What do you want?

It also helps that the Bullitt's two valve lowers the CG a bit.
