Any 'Rocco lovers?
I've been trying to find a late 80's/early 90's VW to make into a project, and today I think I found the car.
Its a busted up Volkwagen Scirocco 8v, 5-speed. 200k miles
The owner isn't sure what year it is (but will find out), the engine leaks oil, the paint is crap, the body is dinged up, the interior is horrible, but there is no rust, straight frame, and a fairly newly rebuilt tranny. I checked KBB myself, its worth about $400. He said probably $600, but he doesn't have a clue what it is worth. I could probably work it down to $300 if I start picking out enough little flaws I know I could fix myself.
My dad says no right now because I am out of work at the moment, but its probably not going to be for sale for a while, because the owner needs to get some money together.
I know this is an Audi forum, but VW's are close cousins. Anyone appreciate the older Volkswagens like I do? I was set on a Golf GTI set up for rally, but this just seems like such a great deal. All my friends think the car is butt ugly, a POS, and can't imagine why I would want to drive it instead of my Audi.
Here's a picture of a Scirocco for reference:

Yeah Corrado's are sweet too.
My list of older Dubs, in order of my desire towards them is as follows:
1. VR6 Corrado
2. Scirocco (16v or 8v)
3. A1 Rabbit
4. A2 Jetta GLI
5. A2 Golf GTI
6. A3 Golf GTI
I didn't even bother putting the Rallye Golf on there because it is so hard to get and so expensive, but that obviously tops my list.

I googled to look up some picts of a Rallye Golf and found some good picts, but I also found this guy - http://tinyurl.com/bzgkg
He sounds a little pissed - and he is the top link when you google Rallye Golf. He's getting some traffic.

I loved my old VW cars back when I was in Germany. I owned a '78 Golf in '82, a 84 Scirocco in 89, a 80' something Jetta in '92. They were all good cars that I had no problems with any of them as long as you keep up the maintenance on them. That goes for any car.
