^ I'm over Palahniuk. All his novels are the same. He has that little neurotic phrase the main character repeats over and over, and all his premises are these snarky, clever comments on modern society...I could go on forever. Isn't Invisible Monsters about the girl without a face? I was trying to explain it to this girl, but couldn't remember.
That said, if you haven't read Palahniuk books before, you should read one-they're fairly short, entertaining, and well written (except they're all the same) but I'd recommend Fight Club or Survivor, which is about the only survivor of a neo-Quaker cult that all killed themselves, and he becomes this national icon/self-help personality. It's good, I guess.
Also Summerland by Michael Chabon was a fun read, but if I tried to explain what it's about, I'd fail, and you wouldn't want to read it.
I'm reading Catch-22 right now, but it's kind of hard to get through, because nothing ever happens or changes, and you can't empathize with the douchey, selfish, flat main character.

I think im gonna buy Rainmaker by John Grisham and Survivor. I loved fight club and i have heard many good things about the author. Survivor sounds like a good one from the excerpt i read. I also choose rainmaker b/c i never saw the movie and i am very interested in law (i want to be a trial lawyer), and i think from the first page i read on amazon it starts from his childhood.

My personal favorite book is "A Clockwork Orange". Its a little hard to get into at first, but if you stick with it, the language will become second nature. Make sure that you get the 21 chapter version, and not the original American 20 chapter version. It makes it a way different book.

Into The Wild, by John Krakauer is a good read also a true story.
Or check out Porno by Irvine Welsh. If you liked the characters from Trainspotting you might like this book. All the same characters basically, but now its all about....making a porno.
