Anyone watching Barret-Jackson?
It's a new round of auctions this week.
I talked to a dealer that actually goes to it and he said that they put the cars that go for big money on tv, but that there are some real bargains there. That's hard to believe when cars that should go for around $18,000 sell for $250,000 on tv.

People wanting to have a certain type of look, but also wanting modern power and reliability. I think it would be cool to have a '66-'67 Vette on the new chassis with the new engine. I'm not much of a purist when it comes to American cars. Most of the guys doing that kind of work have to go to B-J to get the money back that they poured into those projects. If you had a Convette that you had sunk $125K into, where else could you go to re-coup that?
me and my family are into classic american cars.. me and my dad spent 7 years restoring his 69 camaro pacecar, only he knows how much money was spent on that car, but exceptional resourses and effort went into finding all the correct date coded parts.. it was mostly done for himself hes had the car for close to 30 years and will never sell it. its been graded and evaluated and certified, and the value was marked at something over 150 thousand regular private party sale, who knows what it will bring at auction
barret jackson has its good and bad points in the collector car industry it will bring more interest to the scene, but it drives up the price and brings in people that dont care about the cars, and only do it to make some money.
subsequently it also drives up the resale price for someone looking for the kind of car your trying to sell

Yeah, those "numbers" cars go for the big bucks. I would have some kind of mental block about spending $100K on any Camaro, probably because there are so many other cars out there that I would prefer to an old Camaro for less than $100K. But those things bring 100K+ all the time on tv and it's all about personal taste.
I saw one of the heads of B-J talking about the period back in the 80s when the Japanese were buying cars and driving the prices way up, but they weren't really car people. They ended up taking a bath on those "investments". He was saying that now the people buying these classic muscle cars are real car people that plan on enjoying the car and maybe making a little someday.
btw, niceavatar - Mark it zero, Dude!

speaking of auctions, did anyone see that 4 of schumacher's old f1 cars are up for sale? $6.5 million. It's the first car he scored points in, the first car he won it, the 2002 ferrari and something else. if i had the money...
