Like most people here, espacially the aviation people. its great to have a pilots license espacially if youve always wanted to fly, but with buying/renting a plan, fuel, hours required to pass training, insturment rating and filing a flight plan everytime you go up, its better to get an S4, espacially with the turbos spooling up youll always feel like your taking off in a twinjet. BUT IF YOU ARE TRAINING TO BE A PILOT GET THE LICENSE, IT EDUCATION AT THAT POINT.
The instrument rating is after you get your PVT. You dont need it! the majority of your PVT youll spend flying VFR. (visual flight rules) I think youll do like around 5 hours of simulated instrument (hood work) but thats it, just to get you familiar incase you enter clouds or you screw soemthing up. Instrument rating is good to have but not needed, unless you plan to fly IFR (instrument flight rules) all the time. And you dont have to "file" everytime you fly. Filing or having a flight plan is just to help you on long trips with piloting. ITs up to the PIC (pilot in command) whether you have a flight plan or not and whetehr you file or not.

For fun or for a career it doesnt matter, get the pvt first. its something that sticks with you for the rest of your life.

but like i said before, go get an introductory flight first. See if its soemthing that you REALLY want to do, because if its not then its a waste of money and time. It requires surreal commitment.

and not to be a jerk to anyone or bash what they like, but no matter how big of turbos you stick in an s4 its never going to give you the thrill of taking off or landing or doing simulated engine fires at 145kts in a spiral dive or regular dives or weightlessness. theres nothing like flying i can guarantee you that.

or busting out of the clouds into complete clear crisp blue skies.

Thanks everyone for the input. As for the discovery flight, I have already had several "unofficial" discovery flights, (I work in the Air Force, I'm just not a pilot) and I absolutely loved it! And I am working on getting a pilots slot for the Air Force.... So it kinda looks like I should get my license before I get the car... Guess I'll just have to wait another 6 months or so.
