uh, if you are gonna get rid of ur cats (yea there are two, atleast there are on my 98 30V 2.8) you will not pass inspection. So you have to either pass it then do it and have 2 years of fun or maybe you know a guy who does personal inspections who will let u pass. But if you are gonna take out ur cats u might as well just do a custom catback, get a full system or get a good muffler (Remus) and then have a muffler shop bend and weld u knew piping from the muffler to where the cat originally started. This will eliminate the mid-muffler and the cats, giving way less restriction and a louder tone. But if you dont want the hassle of having to tip off an inspector, then just do what im doing. Get a muffler (i got a Remus Axleback) and then have a shop bend and weld u piping of whatever size u need from the end of the muffler up to the cats, that will atleast cut out the mid-muffler to free up your exhaust flow a little bit.

Removing the Cat is easy as. You may just want to hollow it out though. I'm not sure (unless you get custom) if you'll be able to find an exhaust that will fit dude.
They are easy as hell to hollow out and that way the casing will still be there and everything will still fit perfectly.
Used to do this on all my Jap imports.... when I was importing them...... before it became a 3 month process here (Australia). :-(
