Default CD/DVD Rom drive wont work..... Code '10'?

Today I woke up with a call from my girlfriend at college saying her CD drive wont work. After having her look through some stuff we found out that the driver is up to date but in the properties it says that it can not run due to a code 10. Does anybody know what this is or how I can fix it?? Thanks.

Thanks but so far nothing on there has seemed to help. She just told me that it was working fine yesterday and the only thing she has changed was that she installed a new printer, but just after this happened she uninstalled the printer thinking that it may be the culprit. Any other ideas? I'm going to go visit to check it out tomorrow so any other information would be great.

Would it be too much to presume she set a restore point prior to installing the printer? If so, roll it back and see if the cd/dvd works then. If not, I would next recommend running a software update scanner like Secunia. Its free, and it scans for outdated/updatable software, and allows you to download updates directly from its console without having to visit 100 different websites. Better would be DriverMax. Its free, also, but limited in the number of driver uploads you can do in any given 24hour period. A 1-year subscription ($29.95, I think it was) allows unlimited updates. 2-years costs $39.95.\

A code-10 simply means something isn't happening that should be, but the computer can't determine exactly what the problem is. It is almost always drivers or an IRQ conflict of some kind. Updated drivers usually eliminate IRQ conflicts, but not always.

Oh, and, if you're gonna run the DriverMax software, be smart and ONLY install "signed" drivers.
