Default DIY windshield repair?

Hey guys! So I took a rock off my windshield earlier this week

Got a coupla quotes to get it fixed, ~$150 for a repair, ~$300 for a replacement...little more than i wanted to pay since my deductible is $250. The chip isn't very big, maybe about the diameter of a #2 pencil. you think this is the sort of thing i could use that $10 auto zone windshield repair kit for? anyone ever used that stuff before? Thanks ladies and gents!

^ I called my insurance company and they covered the repair at Safelite. They filled the chip and I didn't pay a dime.

Hmm, I'll have to call State Farm and see what the policy is for that. I just assumed that if the repair was less than my deductible i'd be on my own. Thanks for the tip!

No problem man. The Safelite commercial even says it's covered under most policies and if you have full coverage like I do then it should be covered under yours. I think the insurance company pays because it's cheaper than replacing your windshield when/if it finally goes.

i took a rock once too and used a repair kit from autozone it worked fine i guess, you can barely see that there was a chip there and it stopped it from cracking. very easy to use too

I called State Farm, and they apparently don't cover stone chips. However, they referred me to the glass company they normally use for repairs and replacements and he's gonna honor the price he'd charge if they DID cover stone chips, so its only gonna cost me $30. Made an appointment for tomorrow morning. Thanks dudes!

EDIT: incidentally, the glass guy told me that state farm is actually one of the ONLY insurance companies he knows of who DO NOT cover stone chips, just FYI

yeah thats what i figure. Plus they warranty the repair, so if a crack ever starts to form where that chip used to be, they'll replace the windshield fo free
