does anyone here wish we lived in Germany?

RE: does anyone here wish we lived in Germany?
I love it in the US too, but i'm enjoying my time here in Germany compliments of DOD. I've been here since 1999 and there's so much I missin stateside. The Autobahns are nice to travel at insane speeds but at the same time very dangerous. All in all, its the perfect venue to put your car to the test.

I make my own autobaun (Hwy. 280, and Hwy. 1). Hwy 1 is only two lane, but you can pass almost the entire way. I drove down to Santa Cruz from Halfmoon Bay once going between 100 and 134 almost the whole time at 5AM. I think I'd miss alot of America if I moved to Germany. Plus I don't speak German yet.

I'll bet the autobahn rocks, but apparently everything is not ok in Deutschland.

I thought the ad campaign was weird anyway for a gov't to produce.

cars (that I owned/paid for) I've cruised the A-Bahn in, from 1990 - 2000 in order of appearance, as best as I remember:
1981 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Quadrifoglio
1987 Nissan Cherry
1980 BMW 518I
1983 BMW 323I
1981 BMW 733I
1993 Opel Calibra Turbo
Highest speed attained:
287Kph (indicated) - Opel Calibra Turbo
Best TSD (time-Speed-Distance):
Mannhein - Rhein Main 20:07 - from a seated position INSIDE teh BK lounge, on base, to teh front gate @ RMAB DURING rush hour (I hadda drive on teh shoulder a couple of times but otherwise OBEYED all enforced speed limits) Opel Calibra Turbo
Honorable mention:
Bamberg - Rhein Main 2:20:00 - gate 2 gate - 0400hrs start time (so, NO traffic, in other words) Opel Calibra Turbo
Fasted speed attained in teh rain:
212Kph - justa bout any time I felt like it. Above that speed my wipers floated, despite all teh wings and vanes I attached to them. I may have exceeded it after discovering Rain-X, but, by then I stopped caring how fast I was going... Opel Calibra Turbo
Fastest speed in teh snow:
177Kph - spmewhere between Heidelberg and Vilseck. I was gonna be late reporting got BNCOC. Made it, but was actually 15seconds late. No one cared. I din't hafta risk my life, after all, it turned out. Opel Calibra Turbo
I only WISH we had rational speed limits (and the roads to support that theory) HERE in 'Mericuh. I have no desire to slam into a pothole a 100-something-mph...

come to think of it, I'd miss the US too !!! Matter of fact, I don't think I'd be able to live anywhere else in the world... which makes me think that we should go ahead and pull a "South Dakota" in every state. 'cause (judging from my very very old experiences) buck-thirty on NJ turnpike is more than a 'tad' scary in moderate traffic with people waving into the left lane doing 50mph...
true about the potholes too !!! I don't speed for three reasons and potholes is one of them. the other two being safety and of course, cops. I mean, my best friend has a '98 A4 with lowered suspension and 17's and I can't even count the amount of times he cracked rims on Brooklyn parkways over the past two years on the fingers of my hands!!!
SO BRING THE AUTOBAHN HERE !!! LOL
