I would never get one but I think it would be good idea. I invision stricter drivers liscence tests and if you fail the stricter requirments you are made to get a driverless car or if you get a dui you are made to get a driverless car or if you are over 75 you are made to get a driverless car. You get the idea.

I don't like it, you know for the 10% of us who actually enjoy driving, the rest of the people on the road just make it worse for us. maybe they should all be forced to take trains and public transportation and then those who love to drive can have more space on the roads to play with.
That is the future for America, thankfully not our near future like the title says. They have been experimenting with this idea for15 years. Its not going to be accepted in the next 10. The current infrastructure of our roadwayswill have to be slowly brought up to date to function with "Mass Controlled" Automobiles. Think about how much money and how much time that will take, and think about what the very first versions of this will be like, you really think it will be flawless, **** no!!!!!!
And what the hell does FOX have to do with it? Its a technology story...

I think it should be more difficult and more expensive to obtain and keep a driver's license in the US. That way, only people who REALLY want to drive will be on the road. And the environmenalists and such will be happy, because there will be fewer cars on the road, and more people using public transportation. I mean, just imagine if it cost $2,000 to get a license, you can't have one before the age of 18, you have to attend and pass a rigorous performance-grade driving school, and then pass an extensive driving testand pay $500 to renew your license every five years.
That's how you go about reducing traffic-related deaths and accidents, and cut down vehicle emissions pollution (and get all those crappy drivers out ofour way).
Hell, if that was the case, I bet we could talk The Man into abolishing the speed limit on the interstates... eat your heart out, Autobahn!
EDIT: Oh yeah, and once you hit age 65, you have to renew your license annually, and if you fail, youare banned from drivingfor a full year, and after that, the next time you fail the examyou are banned from driving for the remainder of your life. And if at any time during your life, you are caught driving without a license, or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or use your vehicle to commit a crime, you are banned from driving for life.
I like this idea more and more as I think it through...

I agree with you Mr F. unfortunatly if that were the case americas economic system would go into disarray.Being such a bigcountry (landmass wise)is too dependant on people driving everywhere. The fact that many european countries are smaller means more people can rely on public transportation or modes of transport other than cars. IMO
Well, the very first paragraph made me realize it won't happen any time in my lifetime (and you can QUOTE me on THAT!)
These are the collective genuis-ii who have all but driven the domestic-car-market into a situation where they may need to start promising buying the cars BACK, just to get folks to buy them!!! Ignored the Far-Eastern imports to their certain detriment, THEN, with Lido in teh lead, lobbied CONGRESS to increase teh tarriffs charged to "level the playing field," and "give domestic manufacturers a chance against teh imports." The mental midgets have had almost 4-FULL-decades to get it right and the best they can collectively do, to date, is the 2008 Malibu?!?!?
If they released a statement telling me the sun would come up tomorrow I would IMMEDIATELY invest in disaster-recovery insurance.
