a French Press coffee maker is (typically) a glass container that you put your ground coffee beans into, then add nearly-but-not-quite-boiling water to. You have the option of letting that steep for some amount of time, then you push this plunger down into the french press to push all of the grounds to the base of the glass container, and then pour your great coffee.

a Cold Press coffee maker is (typically) a plastic container with a cotton filter at the rubber stopper base from which you add 12-16 oz of ground coffee to the container, then fill it with cold water, gently stir, and let it sit for 12+ hours. at the end of the 12+ hours, you pull the rubber stopper out from the bottom of the cold press coffee maker and let it drain (through the cotton filter) for up to 30 minutes. What ends up in your decanted container is about a 4x coffee concentrate that can be diluted with water to make a great cup of joe.

espresso coffee makers, on the other hand, use steam pressed through coffee grounds to make a highly concentrated coffee liquid. Mr. Coffee actually makes a decent single cup espresso maker for, like, $30.

choose your weapon, perfect your process, and enjoy for years.....

...you do have options

Mine is similar to this one, except it has a metal outside rather than the black plastic and mine cost 10 more dollars.... Works great, have never had any problems so far.

I think I'm going to hold off on the double-wall one for now - it's a little more than I want to spend for something I'm trying for the first time.

I actually really like the Kenya in black.

I'm 99% sure that I'll be ordering an 8-cup Kenya, as well as one of these...

I might as well just order off of the website and deal with the shipping instead of waiting two weeks until I'm in STL, only to find out that I can't find the one I'm looking for.

Yeah, that stove top espresso maker may be my next purchase.

As for now, I just ordered an 8-cup Chambord. I liked the styling of the Kenya better, but I read a few reviews that said that the plastic outer piece made it hard to get the beaker out to clean, and usually ending up with something breaking in the process.

Yea, I have played with the Kenya and it is quite a bit harder to get the beaker out than the one i have and the Chambord. Good luck with the press though!
