the biggest scam ever. I dont need some other guy to tell me my gf is my wife i think i can do that just fine. i just dont understand why all of that crap is needed. rings, wedding, marriage liscence, reception, wedding planner, etc, etc, etc. it is all a scam to get your money and i cant get my gf to see this. she is in a super rush to get married and i just dont get it, i am buying her a 300k house with every option. if it were reverse situation i would say the hell with getting married i want that pimp *** house. i need to cross over to the shady side to get her a ring i think, anybody got connections in the jewelry black market? i just cant understand how that little p.o.s ring cost so much.

anyway that my venting the prob is i need to buy my girl a ring and she already warned me she's gonna have it appraised the day after i give it to her to be sure its not a cubic zarconia. any advice would be helpful.

 

i kinda agree w/ you. all the crap you have to pay for and go thru for a wedding does seem like it's a big scam. but you have to remember thats the culture that we live in. the only thing that kept me from calling it off was because i kept having to remind myself of how much i love my wife (fiance at the time) and would do anything for her. i think if you can't lean on that than maybe you shouldn't get married.

and uh...... if she is going to have the ring appraised the day after you buy it to see if it is a cz, you may have some trust issues there you want to deal with b4 you tie the knot. b/c it only gets worse. the ring is mearly a symbol of your love for each other and it shouldn't be #1 priority.

shes gonna have it appraised because i always tell her that it is gonna be a cubic zirconia and it is pretty funny to see her face go from smiling to pissed in about a tenth of a second. i would never do that though. but i definately love her but i hate the idea of paying tousands of dollars for something that dosent do anything.

 

haha, find a little jeweler that makes the stuff custom... suprisingly, you will get a custom ring, and it will be priced at about half what you'd pay at a jewelery store... stores mark up their jewelery like 200 - 400%

My boss gets all his stuff made by this guy with a tiny little shop... and it constantly appraises for at least twice what he paid. Sometimes like 400% what he paid.

 

yeah its not too much you can do to get around the ring. it may be a cheaper if you go to a jewlery wholesaler, pick out the diamond, pick out the band, and have it set. (thats what i did!)
oh and you can ALWAYS talk them down.

and i wouldn't suggest any black market sh*% 'cause unless you are a jewler you can't REALLY appraise it and know its true value, and if you get in some trouble behind something like that well....................you would probably feel like an ***.

i was joking about the black market crap, my cousin bought a awesome ring from some guys he new that stole it and then one day he got a knock on his door from them saying they got busted by the police and have to give the ring back. the look on his girls face when he asked for it back was priceless. he has the worst luck. then he went out to buy her one legally and it just couldnt compare. this happened years ago she still talks about it. poor guy

 

I agree with many of your points.

If I could do it all again it would be an intimate, relaxing wedding on a beach in Fiji. Linens, sandals, sun, flowers, peace, and a few people at most.

 

why on earth did they know where he lived? Or his name? Jeebus!

As for the previous post, yeah man, elope to fiji. Take 10 close friends, pay their way even... it will STILL be cheaper than a full blown wedding, and 12 people have an insanely memorable event.

Well, what I'd actually do is take 10 friends to like mexico or dominican or someplace cheap, then after that week, fly to fiji or the bahamas or something just the two of you... cancun is a party place, being there with friends would kick the ***. Then get down in fiji.
