Eli Roth (director) created the story around a "supposedly" true underground group in Europe where you can pay a lot of money to torture complete strangers anyway you choose.

Sort of akin to the whole "snuff movie" debate....are they real or not? blah blah.

I'm going to see the movie though even though I am not a big fan of Roth.

So I finally saw this movie last night and have to say I wasn't that impressed. There wasn't nearly as much gore as everyone made it out to be and it seemed really short. It wasn't really scary at all either but it was entertaining while I watched it I guess.

Hostel seemed to be a bit different than the advertizing led me to believe. I went in expecting to be scared and see some graphic torture scenes. But what i got was alot different. I never expected to have the whole theater laughing at this movie.

n interesting side note is that it took Rob Zombie 9 tries to get an R rating for Devils Rejects. I haven't seen that yet either but I hated house of a thousand corpses. Someone here [Fieldy maybe] has Captain Spalding as his avatar and it makes me cringe every time.
yep that would be me

I saw Hostel first night, and let me tell ya- I wasn't too pleased. There were too many scenes in daylight, the directing was usually boring (except during intro scenes and some torture scenes) and actors just plain sucked. The gracious amounts of nudity were a plus, but the ending was a let down. I wish Twisted Pictures (Saw production company) worked on this film, as I'm sure it would be so much better.

I actually liked Hostel a lot better than Saw. I haven't seen Saw II b/c I thought Saw was crap (I know I know there are a bunch of people who like it). Speaking of bad acting, that dude that was in Saw from the Princess Bride was awful [:'(].
