ok, so totally off topic but ive had some silly putty i bought about 6 months ago while i was bored at a shop having an alignment done. now ive been kinda been kneading this thing while im sitting on the computer or watching tv for the last 6 months and now its gone from orange to a brownish color and is starting to smell like poop, literally. also it isnt as pliable as before and kinda is just sticky like gum. how long is this stuff supposed to last.

It turned brown due to dirt on your hands... it stinks prolly becuase of the oils/sweat.

uncontaminated, i'd guess the shelf life is indefinate. found an 'egg' of it the other day, its probably 5 years old, and it looks as it did when it was brand new. I second the sweat/oils/dirt making it rancid.
someone replaced your silly putty with poop as a practical joke.. you have been kneading a chunk of poop in your hands for the last several months.
But that's pretty nasty.. its probably just a big wad of bacteria.

Yes, Silly Putty will deteriorate with oil and dirt and as a result, consistency will change as will smell. The true test though is to taste it. If it taste like bananas, after five good chews, it's still OK. Give us a report.
Buck up a dollar fifty and buy some more.
