hurricanes
Well, it appears some of our African Americans friends have found
> something else to be pissed about. A black congresswoman reputedly

> She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such as

> I can hear it now: A weatherman in Houston says....

> "Waddup ******! Hehr-I-cane Chamiqua be headin' fo yo *** like
> Leroy on a crotch rocket! Bitch be a category fo! So grab yo'
> Chirren, leave yo crib, and head fo de nearest guvment office fo yo
> FREE ****!"
sorry if I pushed any buttons, ddint mean to, got it in an email from my uncle, thought it was a little funny but it is a touchy subject, its an acutal new report that was turned into a joke, the statment that the congresswoman stated was real. But i guess the post may hit a nerve so for that I apoligize
S'all gud, JohnnyB. I'm prolly teh one MOST likely to flame you, and I think the whole thing is HE-phugkin-larious! There are a LOT of things that one, if sensitive enough, could point to as exclusionary, in society. Personally, I've never even once considered the lack of an Afro-Centric naming convention for venues of rampant destruction to be one of them. But, to each their own. I tyhink her efforts would have been much better directed at questioning why there aren't more Minority (all of them, not just Black) owners of Sports teams, or Banks, or proportional representation in Congress, or television shows, or... Well, you get the picture.
As far as teh language goes... I speak, with varying degrees of fluency, 3 languages. 4, if you count Ebonics. There is a time and a place for Ebonics, News and Weather AIN'T (ain't, gettit?) the place for it. If there truely is a market for it, rest assured that some non-minority will develop a way to exploit it (I'm not hatin', if I had teh financial backing *I'D* explouit it, myself) with an "ALL EBONICS, ALL THE TIME" channel on cable. Hey, they have Hispanic, Asian, Russian, Hindu, and who knows what all else. It WILL eventually happen. I just HOPE it turns into a still-born idea, before it hits the National media...
