Default insurance coverage question

what happens when you let someone borrow your car? does your insurance cover them driving your car or does their insurance cover them?

i have two days to find documentation that says i am covered by either my own insurance or my uncle's insurance when i was driving his truck several months ago.. if i can find this it will save me over1000 dollars in fines.

Not all car insurances will. I know AAA will cover me when I drive another persons car. Maybe others could chime in

well, my insurance (progressive) told me that i am covered in other vehicles, but only if the car owner's insurance isn't adequate...so i contacted my uncle's insurance and they told me that the policy covers the car, not the individual on the policy (i thought this was always the case?!)...anyway, i'm going into court on friday with my insurance card, my uncle's card, my FULL policy, and my uncle's policy. if this judge tells me that's not what he needs, i swear to god i'm appealing.

They way it works (should something happen) is whoever owns the car's insurance will be the primary coverage, and the driver's (if different) will be thesecondary.
As far as law enforcement is concerned, all they care about is the owner of the vechicle has it insured when it's on the road.

What you have should be sufficient. You were given the correct information. The vehicle OWNER'S insurance is primary. Your insurance would only kick in on the liability side if the owner's policy had too low limits to cover the losses (bodily injury and property damage)
Sheeesh - All this over a seat belt ticket?
