Default Lets talk tools

I have a gift certificate for sears for 125, so I would like to spend it on something or many things in the tool department, im just not sure what I would need in the future while working on my car. I was thinking crows feet or stubby wrenches but im not sure how much I would need those. I am curious what special, or odd tools would be needed while working on our cars? I have the normal tool set sockets, wrenches 1/4 - 3/8 drive, 1/4 - 3/8 extensions, hex keys, and a few "T"- bits I forget what the technical name is, torque I think?? I also have an air grinder and impact gun.

Is there a tool that you had to run out for while working on your car? For an example I was working on my exhaust and could have used a 16mm deep socket - had the 15mm and 17mm go figure. It wasnt a necessary thing but would have come in handy.

Comments suggestions welcome, dont limit the fun to sears either.

torx!

I find my variety of metric sockets get me by with most jobs. I think the Audi engineers really like #10 size bolts.

Yeah sorry, thats what I meant! When I was doing my timing belt 10mm was my best friend. Seems like everything is in that size! Craftsman are great, you can abuse the hell out of them and trade them in for new ones!

Yeah, my last trip I bought metric deep well sockets, metric ratcheting wrenches and a new set of torx bits. If you do the turbo upgrade metric swivel sockets and a really long 3/8" extension come in really handy. Well, those and an impact wrench!

Thanks for the posts

For the TORX I have 10,15,20,25,27,30,40,45,50
Any other odd ones that I may need?

I do need a good hex socket set so that is definatelly on the list.

Doose- I will be doing a turbo upgrade. Will a swivel adapter allow enough room/clearance? I have 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. Or were the swivel sockets necessary?

I was also thinking about crows feet or stubby wrenches, probably leaning more tward the stubbys, not sure though.

Also if you were to get one torque wrench which range would you more likely get?

BTW a 10mm bolt is the most widely used automotive bolt out there. next is the 17mm

LOL +1! Air compressor + impact wrench = happy Jinxxy!

I just got my own air compressor from my Dad for xmas! Now I don't have to use my husbands anymore........YEAH!!!!! Love it!!!!! Although it bothers my one neighbor, the noise, the other neighbor, well, they have two boys in their early twenties, I think they like the compressor, or rather, like the fact that a girl uses it b/c each time I start work on the Z they come out of the woodwork and sit on the deck, to watch hahahahaha
