So some of you know of my 16V CL conversion Golf I found.... and for those of you that don't...
Looking at a Golf (funds low.. no A4 yet :()
Don't like the performance of the 8V 2.0
Can't afford insurance on a GTI
Found a 16V 2.0 conversion done to a '95 Golf CL
16V is from the older Golf 2.0s or the Passat
I was stoked... he was claiming 160hp
So anyway... that's over. The guy's a fucking liar. So he claims the 16V was done by an Audi professional, in a certified garage. As some of you know, it is illegal to take an older engine and drop it in a newer car... so he assured me it's from a Passat of the same year (1995) as the CL. This car also had some other mods. Neuspeed headers, Eibach springs with Koni reds, wheels (shitty, i'd have sold em), winter tires, ss... can't remember what else. Anyway... I ask him for reciepts, because, low and behold, the tach dosn't work... so I'm suspisious, and not really too keen on having to fix a car before i buy it. So... the guy can't produce reciepts... so I ask him to have the car e-tested. He does.. and fails horribly. There is also only one picture he can provide for me... from the door handles forward.... no other pics. So I really have no idea what this car looks like... and he claims he can't get any more pics for me... for some reason or another. Upon further questioning... he fesses up. The swap was done by him and his buddy on his front lawn. He had blown the engine initially... and his buddy also happened to have been rear ended in his '92 Jetta 2.0... They took that engine (16V from the '92) and dropped it in the '95 CL. Guess where the suspension (Eibach and Koni) came from? Yup, that's right, the wrecked Golf. So the fronts are fine... but the rears are shot. Both the Koni struts are blown, and the Eibachs have gauges in them. So all in all... this blows. I was psyched.
